Ruthie Davis has a new collaboration with a charitable component. The designer tapped youth designers from the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Michigan (BGCSM) along with Cassidy & Kelsey Tucker of the Detroit-based fashion label DEVIATE to design and produce a shoe inspired by the concept of “One People.” All proceeds will go to BGCSM.
Committed to uplifting the future of fashion in, the program offers a paid fashion design apprenticeship to Detroit youth. Through this hands-on apprenticeship, young designers will meet Ruthie Davis, who is also an active mentor for young entrepreneurs, and had been mentoring Cassidy & Kelsey Tucker since 2020.
“We concepted, designed, developed, produced and are now marketing and selling a shoe together, which not only provided an incredibly rewarding experience for all of us as we learned from each other in the process, but the diverse set of skills, talents and viewpoints came together and created a super cool sneaker,” Davis said. “This collaboration is special because unlike previous cross branding projects in which I have participated, this one had a unique educational dimension to it.”
The sneaker, which features a colorful pattern on a signature Ruthie Davis platform, was designed to represent a collective community. The Ruthie Davis X DEVIATE X BGCSM collaboration can be purchased exclusively at https://ruthiedavis.com/, https://deviatefashion.com/, and https://bgcsm.org//.
