Deviate’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection called Miraculous Journey is inspired by the children's book "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” by Kate DiCamillo. Deviate intentionally chose a children’s story as the metaphor through which to interpret the current state of the world as racial and economic inequality gaps widen. Experiencing unpredictable change, learning the ability to adapt and grow, and ultimately transforming one’s perspective through personal experiences embodies a common notion for Deviate this Fall/Winter season. Each piece reflects on daily life challenges and the comfort individuals seek – facing the light and darkness, present-day and fate, and ultimately loss. The juxtaposition of sartorial unisex elements, symbolism and profound meaning behind each design and use of textiles are intentionally conceptualized throughout the collection.
